Spice boys
It was Fred's day out... to the spice plantations of the Spice Island. Its a very slow internet today and I have been trying to put on some photos (of this beautiful island), so it'll be a short blog from me... a longer one from Fred (albeit in Dutch).
We were shown turmeric, lemon grass, ginger, tandoori, pepper, cloves, cardamom and cinnamon as well as jack fruit, cocao beans, graprefuit, bread fruit, cotton fruit, papaya and mangoes, while children came around us and made us watches, rings, flower baskets, ties, little animals out of leaves. Beautiful.
After the spices we visited a slave chamber and learned about the lucrative slave trade, had a delicious spicey lunch and spent an hour or so on the beach.... a bit afraid of the water due to the many jellyfish.
A great day though.
And funnily enough, who should we bump into last night but Michael from Amman, Gondar, Simien Mountains and Axum. He arrived here yesterday as well!
